The back glass in my bronco has no power to it. The window motor works ive had it down before using a battery charger. My question is how to wire it up, i dont care if the indash switch works, that thing is whole other problem (f*ckin electric sh*t) i just want power to motor so the key in the gate will work. If it matters the truck is an 86 and the gate is off a 88. The rear glass didnt work even when the 86 gate was on it, and im tired of not being able to use to back of my truck. I need a wire diagram i guess, or some one that knows a easy way to fix it.

Hey,

I'm sure you'll get a more complete answer, cause I've seen this question a few times before.

If I recall the wireing harness travels between the body and the tail gate on the left hand side... (it is real obvious) and it often breaks in that area due to the constant bending and occasional pinching. You may want to open it up there, see if you have broken wires, and splice some new ones in.

They should all be color coded, so just connect the same colors to the same colors.

Just to keep commenting...

It is possible that you may not be able to see the break, cause the plastic may still be intact. You could get two lilttle straight pins and instert them through the plastic on both sides of where you suspect a break may be, and then use a continuity tester... your ohm meter to see if you have a connection between the pins.

good luck

There are two fuses involved, one for the driver switch and one for the tailgate key switch. Check the black with white stripe wire on the tailgate key switch for 12V. It should be hot at all times. If you have 12V there, you have a ground problem. The ground for this arrangement goes back through the driver switch. If the ground is missing, it is probably from a corroded or broken wire connection. There is a connector behind the driver side tail light, and one on the rear cross member.

Diagram attached. If you don't understand the diagram, let me know.

Good luck,

:)>-

Well i dont think theres even any wire run back to it. Thats my problem, when i pulled the carpet outta my truck the only wires were speaker wires. I didn find any that led to the back, and i looked too nothin even ran to those holes in the inner quarter panals.

The wires don't run inside the cab. They go out through the firewall and then along the driver side frame rail to the rear cross member. At that point there is a connector that for 80 - 86 goes to another connector behind the driver side tail light and then to the harness for the tail gate. Among the many places that can prevent it from running are the latch switch as mentioned by bennyfit, a break in the wires where they flex between the tail gate and where they enter behind the tail light, the connector behind the tail light ( often you find a wire that has corroded so much it has broken off the connector, and the same problem with the connector on the frame rail. This is actually very simple to troubleshoot using a volt meter.

Good luck,

:)>-
