rear differential

i have a 92 bronco with an 8.8 in. 355 gears rear end. the pinion gear broke in 3 places. what could be the cause ? do i need to replace all the gears or can i just replace the two side gears and the pinion gears? also, how do i know if i have a trac lock rear end? would appreciate any info

All gears should be replaced as a set Ring and pinion 1 set (2pieces) ,spider gears 1 set (4 pieces) a trac loc rearend will b indicated by an "L" in between the first and second number of the gear ratio example--3L55

Thanks for the info Elmo. Do you know what would cause one spider gear to break in three pieces .Is there something i need to look for before replacing spider gears.
