Hey fellow Bronco owners,

Back to try and figure out where in the **** all the water is coming from that keeps soaking the back carpet of my 94 Bronco. I had the same problem with my 87 but not as bad. I have run the hose over the top while inside to try and pinpoint the access point to no avail. On the 87 I replaced the rear window seals but it did nothing to stop the problem.

I've checked the forums (and googled till my fingers hurt) and seen plenty of rear window motor issues (been there, done that) but did not see anything related to water instrusion. From my readings it appears that this is a common issue with Ford's in general. Any ideas on how to correct or suggestions for finding where the water enters?

Many Thanks,

Debbie

If you are talking about the rug in front and beside the rear seat, then you may be able to fix it by tightening the bolts where the cap seals to the rear of the cab. Loosen all the side bolts and then tighten the ones along the top before you tighten the side bolts. They are exposed by removing the trim pieces along the window and across the top.

Good luck,

:)>-

have you had the roof off it? there's a seal that runs between the rear roof and the cab. where is it wet, towards the front or the back?

Thanks for your post. I made it a point to ask the original owner if the top had ever been removed and was told no. The carpet is wet from the back left corner (when opening the tail gate) all the way across directly under and behind the strip plate that holds the carpet down. It is the same spot that I had the same issue with on th e 87 but worse. I have factory installed carpet on the tailgate and it is not wet at all so I'm wondering if it is not connected to the left side rear window. I have not driven it in a couple of days so it is not being sprayed up from the road.

Thanks for your post. No, it's the rear under and along the carpet plate right inside when you open the gate. See my reply to bobstrat.

Bronco Gal, look if you have any cracks in the roof at the end of the rain gutters, just in front of where the hardtop meets the cab. A common Bronco problem is these cracks allow water to seep in, run down the B-pillar post and along the floor. You may need to pull out the carpet and rear seat to follow the trail of water. IF it's ONLy wet next to the tailgate, you either have a bad window seal or bad weatherstripping on the tailgate. you can look on Bronco Graveyard or LMC Truck at their weatherstrip section for the hardtop and see the different pieces. There's one along the cab at the front edge of the top, none under the sides, the rear strip above and on each side of the rear window, and a big rubber block at the rear-bottom edge of the hardtop on each side. Also ck the Tailgate Bed Seal...

Here is a pic of it by our MAIN SPONSOR, JEFF's BRONCOGRAVEYARD

Watwer is actually sucked up by whatever under speed.

Try coating it with baby powder/talc and trying in rainy weather.

Or spribkle it and take a run.. see if it was sucked into cargo area.

That was my next guess. Due to age the seal for the lower section of the tail gate becomes compressed and actually doesn't seal causing it to **** the water spray while driving on wet roads. You may have also noted that if you open you drive window you will get a pretty good exhaust odor. You can get a new seal, or I got an 8 foot section of 3/4 A/C pipe insulation and ran it along the lower edge securing it down with the trim strip, works just great.

Good luck,

:)>-

Have you had the rear carpet up and looked under it ?

the back of my bronco was et every time it rained and i couldn't figure out why then i lifted the carpet and found a couple of rust spots that let water in from the road, 2 spots less than two inches 2 inches later i found some other rust in the fender wells that was more extensive ( apparently ice chunks win agains moderate rust .....)

any ways i used rtv silicone for a quick patch ( with sheet metal ) it works till i get a welder for a weekend

as a note my bronco has definitely had the top of and is missing a total of 4 bolts after the last one stripiped itself today three in the cap , top section are gone and it doesn't leak .... it poured rain here a week ago ,
