How do I know which axle I have? I pulled the right axle shaft, it's a 28 spline, the bearing outside diameter is about 2'' 13/16 (hard to measure still on shaft). The shaft size where outside bearing seats is about 1" 5/16 to 3/8 (no micrometer). I can't find any tag or #'s on the axle housing itself. It's a 73 bronco, and it's the rear axle in question. I forgot to measure the brake drum size.Help!

My jaw dropped when I read 28 spline. But then I saw t was an EB so its all good. Have you removed the "pumpkin" yet? The ID tag should be on one of the bolts holding the pumpkin to the diff housing unless it was not reinstalled during the last service.

If you have 28 splines, it is probably a small bearing 9". Not to worry, they are still a strong axles, but measure the break shoes. 10x2.5 is a small bearing & 11x2 is the big bearing.

Small & large bearing had 28 spline.

Measure the rectangular bearing plate bolt hole center to center.

The long way...., 3 5/16" is small bearing. 3 1/2" & larger are large bearing

Brake drum is 10" X 2" on small bearing (& on 74-75 large bearing)

All 11" drums are large bearing.
