So my C-6 went out last fall. I had great plans to rebuild and repair before summer.... Now it's halfway through summer so I bought a used tranny from a guy to get it running again for now. Anyway, My truck is a 78 and the tranny came from a 79. My tranny had a tailshaft that measured about 5-3/4 inches while the new one measured about 8 or so inches. My truck had custom made drive shafts but I also got the originals. The mounting holes for the transfer case were there for the longer tranny and it looked like the holes for the shorter setup were drilled. I had to make an extension for my T-case shifter but everything else fit just fine with the original drive shafts. (I am looking for double cardigan yokes though, those were missing) The motor and tranny were rebuilt (suposedly, the tranny went out after I drove about 1000 miles) by an owner two titles ago. The motor shows signs of that, intake, carb, valve covers, etc. and from what I saw changing the rear main, the bottom and into the cylinders looked good. Does anyone know where this short tailshaft came from... a shortbed truck maybe? Any ideas why they would have used that vs an origianl?
