One way to find out is pour some of the SO CALLED real gas in a clear plastic bottle and put it on the shelf and watch it for 2 weeks. If it is ETHANOL--you will see like a tar substance in the bottom of the bottle. It WILL EAT METAL. It ate the rod that held my gas float. . I posted a picture of it on Facebook and even sent former sen Jay Rockerfellar the picture and told him about it. He didn,t even send me a reply. Guess he had stock in ethanol. He was a lousey governor too.

Ethanol it typically ******* anything with a carb, but I am also kind of surprised with all the climate mandates it isn't required in all gasoline.

Glad it isn't. That stuff will make a mess in a hurry.

This climate mandate is a scam and they know it. Even Russia is paying them--to shut down our oil and mining industry. Has these politicians every took the time to read. What all coal is a bi product of? From womens make up to plastic and steel. They sure will be alot of mad women--if they can,nt have make-up. I wonder if Darrel Hannah(the actress--who is all the time protesting about the coal mines) ever thought of it? I,d like to see her without make-up. Bet she wouldn,t be so pretty.

Well people should start telling our elected officals to outlaw it. These climate people are also getting kick backs from Russia . To try and shut our industrys down. Plus it has been proven it is alot more bad for the enviroment . Then regular gas. Have you noticed the cancer increase lately?

We've been testing for ethanol content for many years now when we see non-FlexFuel vehicles with unexplainable lean symptoms.

Since ethanol is highly hydroscopic, we'll pour an exact amount of fuel from affected vehicle into an indexed beaker, then add an ounce of water.

The ethanol attaches to the water and sinks to the bottom, where it can clearly be measured.

We've found blends causing significant symptoms with ethanol content over 18%.

Since California only allows 10% maximum ethanol content, these blends are obviously in violation of the law.

There's also risk of lawsuit for naming the one or two companies that consistently measure that high.

With that, I can say that you'll never have that problem if you stick to "Top Tier" branded fuels like Chevron, Shell, 76, Mobil, etc.

Brands that are NOT "TopTier" branded include ARCO, Costco, ARCO, Safeway and ARCO.

Doesn't that water that combined with the ethanol become a combustible fuel and get removed from the fuel tank and burned through the engine?

In the good old days we used to add dry gas (alcohol) to combine with water in the tank cuased by condensation turning it into fuel and reducing rust in the tank.

I have read arguments that ethanol fuel causes fuel tanks to rust due to the fact that water combines with ethanol and I believe that the opposite is true.

It will EAT METAL. I had a arm on my gas gauge--that held the float on ate part way off--and it was a new gauge. I posed pictures on Facebook when I was on their--about 10 years ago. It will ruin any motor . I even sent picture to then Sen .Jay Rockefellar and he didn,t even answer. It should be outlawed. Its a way the politicians who wants green deal pushed. The want to ride while the poor and middle class walk.

I blame the ethanol for melting the rubber accelerator pumps in my Camaro quadrajet carb. I've replaced it twice with parts that were claimed to be immune to ethanol but that just isn't the case unless there is something else making them melt. Now I just live with it.

Well I stay away from ethanol. I get(hopefully ) 100% gas,but have trouble with it until I put rubbing alcohol in it and it straightens up and runs alot better. I only put a couple of small bottles in it. I use it in my Regal. It has a v 6,but makes it run alot better.. Most of the problems people has is the gasuuurrr ****** ethanol. If we could make the politicians outlaw LOBBYST---we could make alot of things going the voters way. We should ask them. TELL THEM. They make a killing off of lobbyst plus their benifits and salary.

Yes, right away too as the heavier ethanol sinks to the bottom when it attaches to water and separates from the blend. That doesn't happen too often though unless a car sits stationary for long periods of time. Otherwise it stays mixed in with the fuel.

The problem is, when that ethanol level gets above 10%,
it causes a lean fueling issue that brings on all sorts of symptoms and check engine lights if it's not a flex fuel vehicle. And it is tough to diagnose when all The usual suspects check out okay.
