I recently went on a jeep crawling trip with some friends but i have a stock bronco. i did everything fine but i was wondering. what do you think would be better for my broncos performance. Lockers or a lift. I noticed my stock 96 has basically just as much clearance as a lifted jeep so i was wondering is a lift really necessary/ would lockers work too?

Im looking for best performance. Please let me no your opinions.

Thanks

Adams

I think it really depends a lot on the type of 4-wheeling you intend to do. The two modifications really compliment each other nicely but doing both at once can get a bit expensive. Most guys usually go with a lift & larger tires first & then upgrade the gears & differentials later on. A lift will give you additional ground clearance and it will also increase your axle articulation. The main advantage of doing the lift & tires first is that later on when you upgrade the differentials you can also do the gears. If you do the gears & differentials *first* then the truck will be much quicker off the line when you first accelerate but at highway speeds the RPM's will be unacceptably high. 4.56 or 4.88 gears (the appropriate gearsets for 36" & 38" tires respectively) will really rev the engine and do a number on your mileage until you're able to swap to larger tires. Most people do the lift & tires first to *get* off-road and start learning driving techniques then upgrade the axles later on as the need for more traction becomes the limiting factor in what you're able accomplish.
