Hello, during my last ORV trip.. My truck started Idling(what i would call it) really high.. It seems to want to keep going all the time. I have to ride the breaks in the city, to keep it at the speed limit. I have checked the vacume lines. Didn't see anything loose or off. The Distributor seems to be in place still. The fan also seems to be running really fast and high(not sure if that part of the idling problem?) I have a new Elec. Choke on the carb.I also forgot it has been taking a bit longer to start it(jump it a few times each time and take 5-6times to get it to stay running) and when it does end up starting i get alot of white smoke?

but im looking for things i can check?

What may be wrong and what should be adjusted?

thanks

kevin

Your idle shouldn't change with the PCV off. All that does is vent the crankcase.

First thing to check would be the IAC. Get some cleaner from the Ford dealership and spray it out and reconnect. You can probably use carb cleaner or I've even heard kerosene, but some of the throttle bodies are coated and the stuff from the dealership is manufactured to not hurt the coating.

Once you've done that, it's not a bad idea to pull the throttle body and spray off your valves. Then, with everything reconnected, run about half a can through the intakes on top of your throttle body with the engine running. Get it up to about 1500-2000 rpms and just spray it in. Shut the engine off and let it sit a few minutes then run some more through to burn off whatever it loosened.

Another thing to check is your TPS.

Check your intake manifold gaskets by running the oxygen from a torch down the mating surfaces of the heads and the manifold. Try simply turning your idle adjustment ***** to see if you bent some metal on the carb linkage with a lead foot.

If he has a 78/79 then he will not have an IAC or TPS.

Sounds like your elec. choke wires came off. Check that first. If the wire is off/damaged, the choke will never shut off, keeping your fast idle engaged.
