I am in the process of doing that right now. Find yourself a 90 or up Ch*vy Astro Van HB-unit. Those seem to be the most common swaps out there. As of right now, I have only got the unit it's self and haven't had time to take everything apart and put it back together. You will notice a world of difference, I drove an EB w/HB & disc front/drum rear and it was awesome. When I get mine finished here in the next couple of weeks, I will be disc/disc w/HB.....Can't wait for that WOOOO HOOO!!

But to answer your question, nope it isn't a waste of money, it is worth it and you can do it for under $200 if you pull the unit yourself from the junk yard.

Wild Horses sells the kit supposedly with all new hardware, but when I saw the price I almost $hit. $650!!!. Power brake conversion is $400 total. I think I need to read up on this a bit more. Other that the fender mod, I might be better off going with a whole new power brake set up.

$650 my butt....try $1,1049.95 if you get the HB unit, MC, prop. valve, stainless brake lines, hydro hoses AND not including shipping. The other thing is that you don't know what the MC came out of so when that goes out, you gotta call them and try to get them to tell you what it is out of. Get it all out of a junk yard...I spent $23 on the entire hydroboost unit, master cylinder, hydro hoses & prop. valve. Got the MC for a core and a new one from Checkers is $50. Spend a little on getting new hoses and you are into it for less than $200. Pretty easy call there. Not to mention, the WH ones are basically the exact same thing, just with that nice, fancey, billet mount. As a matter of fact, that looks exactly like the one I got off of a '90 Astro Van. But I sure as **** wouldn't pay over a grand for something that can be had for 1/5 the price they are selling it at.

Maybe I'll just stick to manny brakes for now. Its a good work out and I don't have to explain to my wife where the kids college fund went.

frdbronco73, No, your stock MC won't fit the Astro HB unit.

rodsteal, the junkyard conversion isn't that expensive, but when you do decide to get the power brakes, go junkyard route.
