I was wanting to install a larger alternator. Would it be possible to install a Police Interceptor alternator on our vehicles? I believe it's a 3G. The T-Bird, Cougar, and Mark VIII use the 3G alternator, and I believe I read that the Broncos have a 3G alternator, along with 94-95 Mustangs.

Bird, Cougar

89-93 3.8: 75 amp

5.0: 95 amp

S/C: 110 amp

94-97 all engines: 130 amp

Discussion about them for the MN12s.

Well, I have the 110 on my 83 Bronc. The one thing you should do though, is increase the size of the wire comming off the alternator, the Black with Orange stripe wire. If you can get one, perhaps replace the harness that has a heavier duty wire in it. If you look at those other cars, you will probably notice a considerably larger wire compared to say a 60 Amp. You may have to change the mounting bracket also. Not sure if your year truck has fusable links or not, but either way, you will need a larger fusable link or main fuse.

Good luck,

:)>-

I think I'm going to rebuild it. It's cheaper.

Most people use either 4ga or 0/1ga wire coming off of it. That's what I did with the one I put on my Cougar, but then it went out, so I put the stock one back in. I'll see about upgrading the "Big 3" and that might help, too. Those wires weren't meant for powering loud stereo systems and all other sorts of high-powered parts.
