Passenger side door wont lock

Guys -

Damn newbies, with all their questions. My passenger side door (90 XLT bronco, 351W, pw/pl) will not lock, either via PL, key, or pushing down. How easy/hard is it to take the mechanism out of the door? I got the paneling off, and the three screws for the mechanism, but couldnt get it out due to the rod attached to the door handle. Any adivce there?

When I do get it out, any advice on how to make it work, besides replacing?

BTW, got the optima red top. More amps, and I dont use a winch or a bazillion volts of audio, so no dice on the yellow top...

the rods are held on with a clip that wraps around the rod and the end of the rod goes thru a hole in the clip where it enters the mechanism, just pry the clip off the rod and pull the rod out of the clip, however I would disconect the door lock actuator rod first and try the manual movement, if it moves freely, the actuator is the prob. it is the common prob.

Yep, actuator toast. I am not one to use a delicate solution, so the SawzAll > through the rod connecting the actuator to the door lock mechanism made short work of that. Thanks!
