i have recently done an efi to carb swap on my 87 302, and im working the bugs out now. there is some sort of plug or sensor on the passenger rear of the engine top of the block and almost touching the intake manifold. its about the size of a half dollar and has about a 1/4 inch threading that screws into the top of the block. id take a picture of it but it was broken when i pulled it.

i cannot find in in haynes or chiltons. please help!!!!

illinois, on your 87 302, I believe there's a coolant temp sensor at the very back-center on top of the motor. Not sure if it's i nthe intake or the block. But a sensor will have a plug-in connector on the top, while a vacuum port will have a small tube for a hose to slip on to. A pic would help, JSM84

The 302 efi,s have a engine knock sensor located in the area you described . Center of block very top behind intake . It is a needed sensor the EEC will ****** timing if wrong feedback given . Also note that most 302 efi,s I have seen also have a pressure switch located in the pressure line of the power steering pump so when the motor is loaded by the pump the timing will advance so it doesnt stall . This is also a needed sensor or timing will be effected . The 351,s do not have these sensors . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Does sound like the Knock Sensor Blade... according to a Ford EEC Tech paper by Tom C , the sensor's thread sizes are 1/2-13 UNC for many Fords and for Broncos it is M10 x 1.5mm...about 0.39 inches

according to a pal, Joe it is is down in the valley at the back of the block behind the intake, but in front of the air injection cross-over tube (from the right cylinder head to the left). 1 1/8" deep well will reach it, but the air tube has to be at least loosened

so as i have eliminated all of the eec parts and replaced with a carb, hypothetically neither knock sensor noe power steering sensor is needed correct?
