Hi all. Can some one tell me if my 85 full size bronco with a 4.9L carbureted engine came from factory with one catalytic converter or two? My neighbor has an 86 F150 with the same engine and it has 2 cats.

Thanks. Bill

The two cat system was replaced by a single cat that does the same thing. If you notice on a two cat system the air pipe attaches between them and on a single cat system it attaches in the middle of the cat. I could be wrong, mainly because I'm too lazy to get my book, but I believe all 80 - 86 Broncos were factory supplied with a two cat system. To replace them, it requires new pipes from the headers back atleast to the muffler. My guess is that your complete exhaust system was changed at some point after 86.
