I put this on the general discusion side and realized this was here as well. I want to check to see if the oil pump is doing its job before I start putting the front clip on the bronco. This is in refference to the '73 rising from the rust bronco. I have a guage cluster out of a dash. I notice there are two connection pins on the back of the oil pressure guage. I am assuming that one goes to the oil sending unit, one goes to the hot, the the cluster itself should be grounded. Is this correct, and any idea which goes to the oil sending unit and which goes to the hot?

Thanks,

David

I'm not sure when they started putting an instrument voltage regulator, but if you have one the oil gauge normally gets its hot from that. As far as the other two are concerned, you are right. You got 50/50 chance on hookup so just try it, if it works great, if not swap the leads.

Yah,

The fuel, temp, & oil pres. run off the volt. drop. (it drops 12 to 6-7 volts.)

Don't hook up 12v or you will ruin the gages.

As I recall, 6v runs in, then out of the fuel gage ..in, then out of the temp...then in to the oil press.

"Ground" comes from the gage contact with cluster. :-B

Do you get the 6 volts from the voltage regulator? If so, I will have to wait to I get all that hooked up to check it. Is there any way I can hook up some type of standard oil pressure gage to the existing sending unit to tell the pressure.

Thanks,

David

Just get a new gauge and run the plastic tubing (supplied with gauge) from the back of the gauge to the oil pressure sending unit on the engine. This will give better results.

Just incase you are confused, there are two voltage regulators, one for the alternator and one for the instrument panel. The instrument panel one is about 1 1/4" x 3/4" and is on the back of the instrument panel.

I attached a wiring pictural from a 1970 Bronco shop manual of the instrument cluster. Hopefully it attaches OK and is readable. Good Luck.

Thank you all very much. This information helps a lot. This part of the restoration is pretty new to me. I keep you all posted. I add a lot of the info pertaining to it on the ""73 rising from the rust" post.

Thanks,

David
