I have a 89 bronco, I wast sting at a friends house talking to him I shut the bronco off and when i went to start it i turned the key and i had nothen but the fuel pump relay click and then the whole truck was dead dash lights and radio didnt come on after i turned the key and when i opend the door the dome light didnt work. after checking my battery connections the truck had power so i tried starting it again, did the same thing fuel pump clicked when i turned key then truck went dead. my friend grabbed a short piece of wire and we jumped the power wire to the starter wier at the solenoid and the truck turned over, then i tried it from the key and the truck fired right up. the battrie is charged and is Farly new less than a year old and it started 3 times before that the same day. could it be the starter solenoid?

Just a preliminary guess, but I'd check the condition of the battery ground cable. Disconnect it on both ends, clean the lug and area it contacts on the engine block and chassis. Also check the condition of the wire to lug connection. If there is any corrosion, replace the cable. Do the same with the battery (+).

Lights and starter problems don't have much is common except the battery cables. Freaky problems like this are most often connection / corrosion related. Use a wire brush to clean the connections and the battery terminals, if you don't have one, get a battery terminal brush.

Good luck,

Hi Ryan , by my "Haynes Repair Manual" i got this solutions (synthesis) :

You know the battery supply wire to the solenoid is good, and you know the circuit from the solenoid and the starter is good. Now, You know the little 'S' terminal on the side of that starter solenoid? That is the trigger wire. Have someone twist the key into start position while having your 12v test light grounded to the engine and the probe end touching the "trigger terminal". If it lights up then you have all you need for the solenoid to work thus the solenoid is bad. If no voltage to the trigger wire w/key is in crank position you go up from there: Next and in order check the terminal on the end of the wire the same way utilizing the key. Check the neutral safety switch to make sure electric is going through it -key in crank position. and then to the ignition switch. This will take a schematic so you know which wire coming off the ignition switch goes where for a cranking signal.

Other possibilities are: Solenoid not grounded well, bad wire in the steering column, shifter not pushing the neutral safety switch all the way into park,or a fuse.

Hope this helps, good luck man !
