ive just looked at a 92 bronco Nite edition. i know these trucks are some what rare. this one has 168,000 on it. 351 with push button 4x4 (did not work on test drive) auto locking hubs, new paint and decals, (paint looks orange peel) new water pump, (i can tell during replacement orange water residue all over front of engine) when driven has a shudder in many diffrent speeds after when coasting and slight accleration is applied. feels like tranny is confused or something. interior is in ok shape although smells a bit like a certain illegal substance... this "dealership" wants 6,800 for it. i have a 95 f-150 with inline 6 manual in very good condition has 239,000 on it. im willing to trade. but im kinda turned off by some of these issues. i just dont know if tradeing a work truck that has not let me down and can be used to make money for a bronco that looks like it will cost me money? i know the nite is just a trim package but i like the way it looks and the interior is definitely more comfortable then my 96 xl. any thoughts are welcome.

well, you kinda need to figure what the truck is worth to *you*. Honestly, who cares if it smells like herb. If you can use that to get them down a few bucks great, otherwise..........

Follow up on the basics. How does the tranny fluid smell/look ? Getting a 92' Nite Bronco for a 14yr old 240K F150 seems like a pretty good deal to me. Hassle them down on the details, no 4x4, questionable service, smells like weed, etc

If you like the nite package then make the trade, otherwise you can always make/build/buy another. Use everything you've seem to your advantage & to gain leverage. Arrive at a bottom line & see if that number matches what you think it's worth.

they arnt coming down on the price. instead they will fix any issues stating they have in house repair center. this is a buy here pay here kinda place. i just feel like they will fix it good enough to get it down the road. i think its best to leave it be. as im not sure if it has any value in the future.

what you said here tells the rest of the story. buy-here-pay-here places are bottom feeders, they make money off those at the bottom. once in a while somebody who is not on the bottom will notice a vehicle they like and want to buy it from them, but that rarely happens, since they charge too much.

they charge too much for their vehicles because people on the bottom cannot be trusted to finish out a contract, so bottom feeders have a robust repo and reconditioning department. that's why this place has an in house repair center. they get the vehicle running (just barely) so some guy down on his luck who needs a vehicle will agree to finance it in-house, then in 6 months when the thing quits running, the buyer will either fix it and keep paying thru the nose, or give it back to the dealership. either way the dealership wins. if the guy keeps it and makes his payments, then the dealership makes money. if the guy lets it repo, then the dealership made money while the guy paid his payments, and now that they have the vehicle back, they fix it to get it running (again, just barely) and put it on their lot, ready for the next sucker. they have no need to come down on the price -- they're bottom feeders -- they next guy will pay that because the truck looks good and nobody else will finance them.

if you want the real story, then get a carfax report (any reputable dealership would LOVE to show you a carfax report -- cuz they don't and can't sell junk -- the banks won't let them) the carfax report will show how many owners the vehicle has had. too many means they are running a bottom feeder racket.

i would not buy from a bottom feeder, unless i was desperate -- who knows, with this economy i might be soon enough!

you have excellent points, im going to let this one go. its just like you said its barely running. on the test drive it was very slow compared to my other bronco with the smaller 302 and 35" tires with stock running gear. i was expecting it to get going, the tranny shuddered several times. i dont know how i feel about push button 4x4. its sad it could be a really cool vehicle, ill wave at it every time i drive by it
