Hey, I bought a 78 bronco back in September, and I want to let everyone that posts on here has helped me out very much. But I'm running into a problem that I can't seem to figure out. I have a front end vibration at speeds of 60 to 65mph. After those speeds and before those speeds there is no vibration and rides smoothly down the road. I had the tires rebalanced because I thought that would help but no luck. I could really use some help, so if anyone has any suggestions or clues to where I could look that would be great. Thanks

Mike

p.s. by the way it is an all wheel drive truck with all stock suspension components.

I also uploaded a picture if anyone was interested.

Well you could check the rear drive line see if the flanges are the same way. If they are different ways try unbolting the drive line from the rear, take that boot off and rotate the flang to face the same as the spicer piece.

Thanks, I'll check it out, but I feel it mostly in the front end

they actually call all wheel drives like cars that are always 4 tiresdriven. A 4x4 is actually a truck that can be switched from 2 to 4wd.

just a little info so you dont appear unintellegent...

nice ride tho ive always likes 78 and 79's

good luck

well I have a problem with the whole 4x4 thing. In this case what do you call a truck that doesn't have a 2wheel drive option??lol.. and only has 4hi-4hi lock, and 4low - 4low lock????oh oh and neutral???

Thanks for the compliment on the truck. I've always had imports because of the good gas, but I finally got what I've always wanted..

uhh 4 hi is just four wheel drive with same gear ratio (prolly 3.55 if stock) 4 hi lock is four wheel drive 3.55 gear ratio and the diffs are locked...

here ya go

http://zenseeker.net/4x4/BroncoHistory.htm

1978: The Bronco was offered with a 351M or 400 V-8 engine. Both engines had a 2 bbl carb, a T-18 granny first gear 4 spd manual was Standard while 3 spd automatic transmission was optional. The transfer case had a 2 Speed w/1.92 low range ratio. Rear axle was the Ford 9" while front was the Dana 44. Front disc brakes were now standard. Round headlights were standard, while square headlights came with the XLT option package.

I understand what you mean, and I've done some research myself and came up with what you have, but what I'm saying is that my truck does not have a 2 wheel drive option. so in this case on a truck, what do you call it? I have the 3speed auto.

thats strange it doesnt have 2wd seems it would tear up the tires and diffs on cement because of the inner tires turns less than outer tire and it cant do that with diffs locked. it must have a 2wd option. unless someone did some changes on the tranny which i have never heard of and i wouldnt know the reasoning for it...

normally it looks like this

The shifter doesn't have a 2wd option but what I'll do when I get the chance is take a picture of the shifter **** and post it to show ya. I'll tell you what though, the turning radius on this thing is ridiculously good its better than any vehicle I've had before

ok I took a picture of the know and this is what it looks like. I can't find any other options that say 2wd. if you have any info please let me know. I would be happy to find out that there's a 2wd option on this thing to help me with the poor gas mileage.

Check this out. Hope it helps. Looks like that year you could get full time 4WD or part time. See last page which is the options sheet. Looks like (I think) that yours is full time 4WD. Does it have any kind of locking hubs or not?

Did you check out the link above. I'm still leaning toward full time 4WD. If the front slips it will engage automatically. Or you put it in lock and it's 4WD all the time. This means that your front drive train is running all the time. Get in some dirt and play and see how it acts between HI and HI Lock.

Yea, checked out that site and it is helpful. I have to do a few things to it before I do any wheelin with it. First thing is the l/f axle universal.. I think it is going to be hard to find some dirt in the phoenix area. I do know I can't chirp or spin the rear tires at all. I'm stuck on the whole all wheel drive thing. Although it would be nice to have the option of 2wd. to get better gas mileage.... But thanks for your help
