Just got a 90' Eddie Bauer for $1000!!! Well the transmission is apparently shot. I'm gonna start from square one on this rip out this one and start my hunt for a replacement what should I go with?

I see there are several types used in 90' models. What's the best transmission I should try to find for this year Bronco?

Welcome to the Zone > . Post some pictures when you get a chance, we'd like to :-B at them.

As far as a transmission is concerned, the easiest swap is to the same one that is in it now. Here is a nice article on Broncos including the transmissions that were shipped with them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Bronco. Changing to a different one than the one that is in your truck now would require a computer change.

I'd get a rebuilt transmission, possibly one of the Art Carr bulletproof versions and add a trany cooler. Heat is your big enemy with a transmission, so dissipating it is the best way to extend the life of one.

Good luck,

:)>-

I like da Art Carr tranny's a lot; good stuff!

Some swap their auto trannys for later Model Year trannys; or truck auto trannys, like this:

Wow thanks yall for the advice! Ok well as far as rebuild kits go where should I go to hunt em down? Didn't want to spend to much money on it but well yall all know I will be. Rebuilding or pulling from a yard may be my only options at this point. Also I will possible need a transfer case as well. Just not totally sure till i crack them open to see what's going on. I will attempt to drive her this weekend just to see what the symptoms are. Bought this thing from my LITTLE brother he isn't exactly the best at describing problems I may just squeak by with some minor adjustments. Yeah right!!

If you pull a used tranny from a yard, you never know how long it will last, you'll end up with the cost of a tranny and possible rebuild anyway. You might want to consider shopping for different prices of a rebuild.

I knew getting into it that this would be a money pit so I'm not to worried about spending a little cash on it. From what my brother said he was going up a pretty steep bridge/incline and it just made some loud clunking noise and wouldn't go over 20 mph it does drive but no faster then 20 and lots of straining noises. To start with he said it was stuck in four wheel drive from the get go and he had to take the front drive shaft off because when he tried to get it out of 4 it wouldn't do anything. I'm going try to drive it this week to get it home but once here I'll have to get cracking on it and get the transmission/ transfer case issue taken care of quickly.

Thanks for the link!! I read it and some of it twice. Basically from what he was saying it was stuck in 4 low or high not sure about that well when he tried to shift out of 4 it just wouldn't. F rom what I was reading usually they wouldn't get stuck into 4 but it can possible be a manual shift related issue. None the less sounds like a mess under there I'll be bringing her home this week and pull the system out then I'll really be asking questions.
