Hey all,

New to the forum. Thanks for what looks like a great place for knowledge, first of all. Secondly, I wanted to get a bit of clarification on something a mechanic told me today.I have antifreeze at the end of the oil dipstick, and excessive pressure building up in upper radiator hose. I have an 85' Bronc with the 351w **. What I'm thinking right off the bat is new head gaskets at the least. But what else should I be considering or looking at? I'm fairly new to turning my own wrenches, so I'm just trying to get a better idea of what I'm up against.

kinda hard to say if its a low mileage engine and you caught the problem early enough just gaskets if not you might need new heads or those decked possibly more.

You need to have the heads machined at a machine shop for sure because they may be warped and ALWAYS use new head bolts but other than that I just replace everything that looks old on the way down. You may rip off the water pump while you got it tore down and replace the timing chain because you are like 12 bolts or so away from it and there is no sence in going back in to do it later! good luck and have fun
