Well the past could of weeks its been doing this, and it does it almost every time i go to take of either in drive or reverse.

Here it goes.

I get in the truck, start it up, put it in drive, barley touch the gas and i feel and hear a clunk in my floorboard. I can feel it in my feet. So im thinking its coming from the front end. But what really spins up front when its in 2wd?

Crawl underneath the truck and check the play in your drive shaft. You may be feeling the effect of bad U-joints.

Good luck,

:)>-

As Seabronc psoted, the dreaded driveline "clunk" is most often a bad u-joint in the rear driveshaft, and most noticeable when you put the tranny in gear and take off. The second possibility is something loose/ worn in the front suspension, such as the radius arm bushings.

edit: right, the front driveshaft should not spin when in 2WD or 2HI. But you might want to visually check that at slow speed.

One of your lock outs could be engaged causing the front axle to spin in 2wd. I'd check the lock outs and front drive shaft to rule it out.

If you just replaced the lockouts one *could* be installed wrong keeping that side locked.

I have new radius arm bushings and a drivers side bracket but il get under there and check everything out. I also have lockouts so il check to see if anything spins up front while in drive. Thanks

It sounds like what my bronco was doing, and it was the rear drive shaft. It was worn u joints, It actually tore the cv joint in half. But it does feel like its coming from the front, i didnt know it was the rear drive shaft until it came apart.

It very well could be a u-joint, but dont overlook the slip joints. There is a slip joint in the front drive shaft and one in the rear. If these joints aren't lubed up enough they will stick and cause a clunk everytime you take off or come to a stop. They are located on the drive shaft covered by a dust boot. Hope this helps.

When i first bought the truck it had a terrible clunk when you took off, and then again directly after it would get above 25 mph on a steady throttle, ended up being no grease on the slip joint of the rear driveshaft. Il have to get under there and check for U joints (its about time for them id say) and re grease my slip joint again.

Thanks guys.

Yeah mine did too. I drove it for a year, going nuts trying to figure out that clunk. I thought it was the rear diff so I changed the fluid but it still clunked. Finally I figured out that it was the slip joint. I've had to grease mine twice in the past three years b/c of that clunk.
