Well today was an awesome day for me. I just got back from trailering my new (to me) 74 bronco home. It has the original 5.0l engine and has never been rebuilt and is still in great shape. It has dual gas tanks, Auto transmission, power steering, and A/C added to it. The passenger fender, hood, and grill are from another bronco the guy had because at one point his wife forgot to set the brake in another truck and rolled down the hill into the bronco. He's actually got 4 which is where the parts came from (3 now). The truck had been sitting for 2-3 years. Amazingly it fired right up with some fresh gas. All that I need to do at this point to get it running on the road is put back in the radiator and condenser that were removed and repaired from the collision, and change oil and fluids.

The next things I plan to do will be as follows.

realign the hood

A good set of A/t tires

replace radius arm bushings

inspect and replace anything wrong with the parallelogram steering linkage

Then eventually I want to redo the dash and it's all cracked from sun damage. Anyone have any ideas? I like the fabricated metal dashes but have no idea where to look for info on making these.

It's dark now but I'll take some pictures tomorrow to post.

welcome to the zone.
Thanks.

Here are a few quick pics I took this morning after putting it n the garage. The passenger fender needs the trim removed and holes filled and painted to match the rest of the vehicle. Same with the hood ect.... Otherwise it's in really good shape. Very minimal rust.

I've been looking into possibly re-doing the engine for efi at some point.

Several options I am considering are....

1. a medium compression 302 from an explorer(10-1) with a e-303 frpp cam

2. stock 9-1 compression with forged pistons, comp cams blower grind, and a paxton novi-2000 with 6-8 psi boost

3. a rebuilt stock gtp-headed roller-cam 5.0 or 331 cube small block, maybe with a 75 wet-shot and a e-303.

I have a lot of experience building high power mustangs and cobra's but this is my first bronco. Shouldn't be that different though....

What option of the 3 do you think sounds the coolest? I'm kinda hesitant on the nitrous because I'd hate to shorten the life of the engine as I plan on giving it to my GF when I'm done and then redoing another bronco and making it into a ********* wheeler for myself.

The bad part is I sold a 98 explorer with the 5.0 and 4r70w. Man that would of been the ticket for a donor vehicle. If only I had known I was going to have a bronco in my garage about a year later.
