i know it is a really small thing but the stupid tail gate on my 90 bronco feels like it is not shutting fully. it closes and latches but still wiggles back and fourth which makes for an annoying chirping and rattling sound. also does anyone have any tips on removing the top faster as in special clips or anything like that and one last thing, how hard is it to replace the fan control switch on the heater (the speed switch on the dash) thanks guys

The striker bushings may be worn out on the tailgate, or the latches need adjusting. As a quick fix, i put some duct tape around the strikers to keep the tailgate from rattling.

IF you frequently swap out the hardtop, consider placing only half of the bolts instead of all of them if you plan to remove the top soon. There's a thread on some ideas for using camper-top clamps from awhile back, too, but I know of no one that's tried it.

The HVAC control is not too difficult to remove. Just remove the dash bezel, loosen the mounting screws, and pull it toward you enough to disconnect the cables and hose. JSM84

if you get a socket on a small right angle drill or small cordless impact you can get the bolts out in no time. Back when i was 18 i used to pull the top off myself over lunch in a matter of about 10mins. I used to leave a few of the bolts out as well.

A good striker post should have a bushing wrapped around it. They are replaceable and can be purchased at either an auto store or online from some place like http://www.broncograveyard.com or http://www.lmctruck.com

If the bushings are in good shape, you can adjust the striker post by using a T55 torx. Loosen it and move it back a little bit at a time until the gate closes solidly. Make sure the window aligns with the track in the top.

Good luck,

:)>-

well guys i got the dash pulled apart and got the switch out and realized that my problem wasnt that the switch was worn out, rather it was unplugged, so i dug around for the wire and found it...the idiot who had it before me had unplugged it for god knows who what and taped it up with some other exposed wired and now the connector is melted in a solid black ball. sooo that being said i need to know if there is a way to rig it up without that connector or if anyone knows where i can find one of the connectors....once again one of those things that could only happen to me. o and the solenoid went out on it as well.
