Today I took the bronco out for a ride in the woods. After going through a mudhole a little while later I noticed the ABS light came on, a few minutes later the battery light came on and the battery gauge is reading all the way down to 8. Kept on driving (had to get home). So on the way home every gauge on the dash goes out and the overdirve kept switching in and out. By the way it is a 302 w/ aod.

You may have gotten some water in the alternator. I would check the voltage while the motor is on to be sure it's charging. Any auto parts store should test the alt and battery for free for you, if you don't have a tester. JSM84

I load tested the battery, all good. Then I unhooked the positive terminal and it died right away. So I guess you were right jsm84. THANKS. I have priced a few at some parts store and they are all pretty much close in price. Is there any one better than the others?

Yep, the alt isn't charging if he motor dies when you remove the + cable. Not recommended for computer-controlled vehicles, btw. You might consider the 3G alt upgrade, and I wouldn't buy any electrical parts from AutoZone. JSM84

Thanks for the tip on autozone I've heard the same thing about advance auto parts. My neighbor used to work for them, he said everytime someone would return a defective part they would just put it back on the shelf.
