i have an 83 bronco 350 v8 5.0. every morning wheni head off to word my truck will cut off when i hit the gas. i have to restart it over and over until finally it will go without stalling. Its really frustrating and i have asked about it before and everyone tells me its old and needs to warm up. Personally i think it can be fixed.

sounds like you may need your carb rebuilt. When was the last time you checked the fuel filter

Yeah,I would invest in a tune up and a carb kit.

Personally I agree with you. If it runs just fine once warmed up, you probably have some issues in the cold start and run portion of the vacuum system. However, you need to come up with a better description of your engine. Either you have a 302/5.0 engine or you have a 351/5.8 engine. If you look at the vacuum diagram located on the radiator support, there are some lines colored orange. That portion of the vacuum system is what operates the heat control valves, (what used to be called the heat riser system).

Another possibility is that the automatic choke is not functioning properly. How old is your carburetor? There are other possibilities, but those should be checked first.

Good luck,

:)>-

I have never had luck with choke assemblys, they have plagued me for as long as I can remember, I have rebuilt carbs done everything I could think of but in the end the choke still was screwed. You definately sound like your experiencing what I have gone through in the past. I just got fed up trying to figure the choke setup out, I started buying brand new carbs because it just wasnt worth it to me. An actual number of new carbs? 2, I have been lucky ever since, now I am carb free.

Basically I agree with you Yardtape, but if it is running just fine once warmed up, it is more likely the cold start and run system than the carb. Mine use to do exactly the same, even with a new carb until I rebuilt that portion of the vacuum system. It is especially necessary in cold weather if you want good cold start and run characteristics. Without that you need to get the engine warmed up before it will run without stalling. Even with a new carb I had the problem but once I fixed the heat control valve portion of the vacuum system it has never had a problem even with the temperature below zero. I personally don't recommend start and running in extreme cold conditions since it is ******* the engine, (that may come from flying, where you would never take off on a cold engine). With the price of carbs these days, I'd exhaust the other possibilities first. I also agree on rebuilding carbs, that doesn't work well especially if it is not professionally done since a carb kit doesn't address worn parts that cause vacuum leaks and other running problems. (by professionally, I mean a place that does a complete carb remanufacturing job).

I wish. It is one of those, "eat your heart out", trucks. It is one of several hundred that I took pictures of at the, Good Guys East Coast Nationals, last September. It is a 32 Ford pickup, not sure what engine is in it, belongs to a guy over in Pennsylvania. I had a 32 coup, but don't have it any more.

When I first looked at it, was a 32 no doubt in my mind. But the box started making me second guess myself. Maybe the pic is playing tricks on me. Goodnight old man, Be back to bug in the morrow.
