I have a 1985 Ford Bronco 351. I am in the process of taking my muffler and tail pipes off to replace them. The bolts on one of the clamps are stripped and I can't get them off. Can somebody tell me how to get them off. Also, after you remove the clamps, the tail pipes seem that they are stuck on the muffler. Do I need to add heat to get them off? They wont just pull off. Suggestions would be greatly taken.

Firelt90bronco is right. Unfortunately when you clampo a pipe it puts a ridge in the pipes so they are very difficult to get apart. Cut the pipe on the muffler side to get rid of the stuff you are trashing and then you can work on getting the remainder off your Cat. Right off hand I don't remember which way the cat pipe is at that point, inside the old muffler pipe or outside it. If it is inside the remaining piece of muffler pipe, you can carefully cut it inline with the pipe. I have used a cutting wheel for that, lots of hot little sparks and flying fine metal pieces, face and eye protection definately needed. Be carefull to only cut thru the piece you are removing. You could probably do this with a hack saw but, what a pain.

Good luck,

Well, thank you Seabronc  . I always thought my methods were a little too harsh for applications, but why do it neatly, just get it out however possible. B)
