So getting headaches trying to figure out the best cost effective/option for mounting some off road lights..
Well I was laying in bed last night upset because the Hella 500ff lights cost $65 and the HID kit costs $60. $125 just for the lights.. Then at least $120 for the Carr Light Wings. For me, I don't want to spend more than $150 on off road lights that I'll only use on camp trips and very rare situations..
So it just popped into my head! Why not just drill holes into my bumper. Mask off around the area drilled, and apply some bedliner to protect the bare metal from rust. THEN install the offroad lights with rubber washers. So simply put, You have from top to bottom - Bolt, offroad lamp, metal solid washer (thick kind that adds a lot of base), rubber washer, bumper hole, rubber washer, metal solid washer, nut.
This way the rubber washer adds a second level of rust protection keeping water and mud out.
And the best part (for me) is the HID kits have a quick disconnect from the bulb to the ballast so I can just remove the off road lights when not in use, disconnect the light wires in less than 10 seconds, and remove the lights. Simply use the bolt/washer/rubber washers to seal up the holes!!
*Yes I know most of you don't care..but for some of you guys like me who are **** about this kinda stuff, this could be a great option to going ahead and drilling holes into your truck!*
