Greetings from Turkey. I am a member of the US Air Force, currently stationed in Turkey. I have an '86 Bronco. I've had it a couple of years now, minus shipping it to Turkey and having it locked up at the body shop for a couple of months. It's looking pretty good nowadays. I'm doing more and more work to the old Bronco all the time, but it is tough getting what I need here in Turkey. I'm constantly searching the internet for good deals.

So far I have installed a 4" lift, 35s, dual exhaust, lots of little stuff. I have the same nagging problems as everyone else: 1. Power windows that work most of the time, 2. fuel sending unit that works for the first 10-12 gallons, 3. what tailgate defroster? I have a switch, but...

Anyway, look for me to make some posts. Love to make some new friends. By the way, I am originally from Ohio, but have called Kansas, Washington state, Arkansas, and Illinois home at different times during my time in the Air Force, not to mention South Korea and now Turkey.

I am the only Bronco owner here in Turkey, but look for some pictures soon of me with our Office of Special Investigations late 80s Broncos. Mine's the best!

What part of WV are you from? I'm from SE Ohio. I get back for deer season once in a while. You say you're X-USAF. When and where did you spend your time in Korea? I was stationed at Kunsan (Wolfpack!) all of '95.

Thanks, man. I really appreciate it. Let me start my shopping list! Just kidding. I have been able to get most of what I need via the mail. Once in a while some companies don't ship to PSC (military) boxes overseas. It's just a pain in the rear not being able to go to the local parts store to pick up the little odds-n-ends, like a PCV valve, that I need to order. Postage sucks. I have had pretty decent luck with Summit and AutoZone. But there's nothing like being able to walk in with the broken part and saying, "I need one of these." I will let you know if I need any parts. Of course, I am new to the Zone, so bear with me. I am going to try to find some sort of upgrade for my front and rear ends, though. I'd like to get a locker, but price might keep me to a Trac-Loc or something. If anyone has a good used one, I'd be interested. Of course I also want to upgrade to 4.10 or 4.56 gears, so I need to decide what to go with before I can get the lockers. Decisions, Decisions. My truck is our only means of transportation here in Turkey, so I have to keep an eye on milage. Sorry so long. Again, thaks for the offer.

Thanks, man! I really appreciate it. That goes for all of you. I may really have to start a shopping list. I am looking for a winch (big one!) I really can't afford to get too stuck over here. I did get a 5ft Hi-Lift and winching kit. That's get me by, hopefully. I'm going tomorrow with some pictures to get step bars and tube bumpers w/tire carrier and jerry can holder fabbed. One nice thing over here is that parts may be expensive, but labor's WAY cheap. I should be able to do front/back and sides for less than $500. Since I don't speak Turkish, that's where the photos come in. If you guys have any good pics of bumpers and stuff that have worked well for you, let me know. Might save me some trouble in the future.

I got to tell you guys, I do get a lot of looks in my old Bronc. It's a good looking truck, and 90% of the vehicles on the road are smalled. Really only the commercial rigs are bigger. It is a challenge driving on some of the streets, though, because the streets are barely wide enough for 2 small cars going opposide directions, let alone driving a 6-ft+ vehicle through. Thyank GOD for swing away mirrors. I don't know how many times I've smacked them off the sides of delivery trucks!

I'm trying to get the military guys and gals here to get together for some milder off-road stuff. Just like in the states, 90% of the people with 4-Bis never lock them in. So far I have about 6 Jeeps, a couple of Toys and Nissans and a nicely BDS lifted Chevy P/U going out. My highlight so far is getting to unstuck my buddy's TJ! He has no diff's left! That clip is on my Supermotors page, listed above. It's big, but it's worth it, especially since the cameraman is a Jeep guy, but he even calls the Bronc a Jeep Rescue Vehicle. THAT'S PRICELESS. He loves my truck, so not all Jeep guys are all bad, or is really a Bronco guy in Jeep's clothing?!

Sorry, another long message. With the kinda-sorta 4X club I'm getting going, I would love to get some sort of all-around corporate sponsorship, just in case we break stuf, and we will, already have. It would be great to see some parts places/manufactures jump on board with me and show the military member support that you guys already have. If you belong to any clubs, maybe you have already gone down a similar road and can point me in the right direction.

Hey! Kunsan is where I was too. But that was back in '85. How'd "A" town treat you? I'm in the northern panhandle, but I have a hunting spot down in Wetzel Co.

You know A-Town was always a party. Like I said before, from SE Ohio, not too far from you. Call Guernsey County home. I bought my Bronco from my dad down there, farm truck. About 25-30 miles west of Wheeling. My brother is working at the Cabela's Distribution Center in Wheeling.

Turkish Blue, I just read your "Letter to the Editor" in the latest issue of Bronco Driver. I've posted a few links in the "Tech Articles/Reviews" forum here that will help you with 99% of the Bronco tech info, repairs, mods, etc.

I think it's fantastic that you're starting up a 4WD club with your fellow servicemen!! My limited experience with finding a sponsor has been on an indivdual basis just for my own vehicle. It is hard to find a company that will do that, in the way of providing free parts or discounts. That normally takes a real head-turner of a show vehicle, attending several major shows per year and so forth. But it never hurts to ask, so I keep trying!!!

I haven't even got my copy of the magazine, yet. Thanks for info. You know how it is, there's always a new problem for me to fix, but it's all been done before. I really appreciate everyone's knowledge and expertise. I jsut went to the beach again this past weekend and found my front end not engaging. Yet to put it on a lift to see if it's the T-Case or auto-locks, but went ahead and ordered manual locks from JBG, just in caase. I am looking for a good winch, on a budget. Any tips there would be great. One problem is shipping weight, so I'll probably have to ask for the cable to be removed and shipped seperately. Got to keep it under 75lbs. Oh, well, got to get back to work. Hopefully soon I'll have some pics to send into Bronco Driver of the 3 BB and 2 BIIs on base here. I look forward to getting my next issue...

Howdy Turkish Blue, Nasilsen? (spelling) *** eye I Hope. I was at Karamursel from 71 to 73 and enjoyed it. One of my best tours. USAF Ret. I didn't have a bronco but had a 51 Chevy that had been in country since the 60's and handed down over the years for $25.00 each time. That chevy had more J.C. Whitney parts in it than a J.C.W. stockroom. I know what you mean about getting parts. I was lucky in that I ran the boat house on base and the two Abi's that worked for me could build anything. Enjoy your tour and try to get up to Mt. Uladag for some dynamite 4X4 action.
