I'm in the process of purchasing a 1996 bronco Eddie bauer 5.8. I'm rather bummed those did not come with a manual transmission.

This bronco will mostly be used as daily driver, and over the summer a tower for the dirt bikes and quads, with small amounts of off roading.

Can anyone suggest a good transmission for it? The NP435 seems a bit low for me, Granny+3 doesn't exactly mean decent mileage. The M5OD has a nifty Overdrive with decent mileage in my F150, but I'm not sure if that would be strong enough for a 5.8L with a few upgrades.

Any suggestions of a happy medium?

WELCOME!

Most go to the ZF brand.

Accoding to sources;

The M5OD was in the F-Series up to the F450; and for up to the 460 and Diesels. The ZF is avail. as a gas or diesel versions w/diff ratios (see below Link)

I have a few ZF Swap LINKs in my site @ http://www.broncolinks.com/index.php?index=55

Plus;

Break-Out Diagram w/ Nomenclature

The ZF was also available with at least two internal ratios.
