not sure if this has been answered yet or not. i've been able to turn my steering wheel about 3-4 inches before my tires start turning for a couple of months now. i took it and got a front end alignment and they said that my steering coupler was bad. i told a guy at autozone was was goin on and he also said it was the steering coupler. he said that it was by the firewall on the inside. i have no idea where exactly the damn thing is. well, tonight i was on my way to my mom's house and i could turn my steering wheel almost 3/4 of a turn before the tires started turning then something felt like it locked back in place and i barely turned the steering wheel and the tires turned. i decided to take my truck back home and get my wife's. i moved hers and parked mine in the spot where hers was parked and i tried to straighten my truck out a little bit and my steering wheel just spun and the tires didn't turn or anything. what broke and where the **** is the steering coupler? does anyone have a picture of the break down of the steering column? thanks for the help.

Most steering couplers are at the end of the steering shaft at the gear box. They look like two big washers with a rubbber disc in between them. You will have to loosen the clamp on the the gear box side and I believe bolts hold it to the steering shaft in order to remove it. I would remove the old one first and then take it to the parts store to match it up with the new one as there are differant sizes. New one should run about $10.00-$25.00.

What is the correct way to tell if the box it adjusted too tight? I know I risk the chance of burning out the pump if I over tighten the box.

Yea, Im basically having the same problem, but its been the same way since I bought it and Ive had it for about 2 years now. Im thinking that if something was going to break on it, it should have broken already so I think its probably just an adjustment on mine.
