I have tightened my steering up to where my wheels get stuck when i turn and i have loosened it up to where i had no control. Either way my steering wheel wabbles left and right and i have no control. How do i fix it? Also I put a CD player and four new speakers in it, two front door and two rear 5x7, and then are making a poping and crackling noise when i turn them up past a certain volume. Do i need to replace the wiring or what? Everything i have is stock 81 so im still working out all of the bad wiring and stuff! One more thang, i have a two barrel carb on it and my horse power is good on take off but of course i want more. What would you suggest to add to it that is not to expensive?

try adjusting the sterring in 1/2 turns till its to tight then back it off 1/4 turn, for your speakers you might have a wire crossed +to- or maybe you have a radio with more power then the speakers can handle, adjust the Treb and bass to a lower setting then see if it still pops

then speakers and the cd player came out of my car and they worked fine in it so i think that the wires are crossed or something along those lines. and i have done everything possible with the steering. could i just need a new steering column or steering box?

where's the strg. wobbling from ? Is the top of the column loose or does it wander when your driving it?

It wanders when im driving. i can pull left and right without it moving the truck. so when i am driving and i pull the wheel left and right i am constantly over correcting.

If your sterring column looks good and theres nothing wrong around the tie rods and you have tried to adjust the box then I would rebuild the Box its cheap and easy to do.

The front end looks good. I do believe that it is in the box. I havent look at the steering column or really looked at the box either. Im pretty sure that it is in the box. I have never rebuilt one but if you say it is easy then that can be my next step!

Just to let you know, i fixed the speakers and their poping. There were some crossed wires from whoever wired the old CD player in. Sometimes i dont know why people even try to do some things.

I'm having the same deal with a squishy front end. However, I have a pile of parts that I just purchased yesterday including new tie rod ends and wheel bearings. I figure that most of my problems lie in those warn out parts, but is rebuilding the steering box a good idea too? Is it easier to access with all of those parts off? Or is it something that I could just as easily do at a later time? How big of a job is it? If they're all integrally connected, I only want to mess with that stuff once.

When I installed my lift and 35 "tires on the 84 Bronco, I already had a complete new frontend and steering linkage below the gearbox. There was still the same slack left to right, and the cause was a worn rag joint in the steering shaft that connects the steering column to the gear box. It was only found when turning the steering wheel a certain way, so thoroughly check that part out with a friend. If you find slack in the gear box and cannot adjust it with the top ****** I don't know how you would go about rebuilding it. You may have to replace the gearbox in that case. There is a quick fix for a leaking bottom seal, but again a replacement may be a better option. A new stereing shaft cost me about $125.00.
