Just put a Jasper 351 W in my 87 XLT.....The darn thing sprung an oil leak, i believe near the oil sending unit...And LOCKED UP ! ! ! !

So......Anyone ever run an engine without oil?

Is it just the main bearings?

Or cud it be the whole engine is shot?

Gonna pull the darn thing out next week and start looking. Just was wanting a lil insight.

Had a similar experience once and I'm sorry to report that nothing but a new engine was the answer. You may get lucky, but the prognosis is not good. Even if you can repair the damage, you may be better off in getting a re-manufactured long block.

Good luck,

depends on how long it was running without any oil in it, could be just mains and it could have caused damage in your top end as well

Ditto Krafty,

It is not worth the time to put mains in and then get it to run so you can find that there are other problems.

Just get another engine, or rebuild that one.

Question...how did you NOT know is was out of oil?

If you don't have a guage or at least a light, get that fixed before another engine goes in.

FYI... I got an Ultra Gauge....works great...will send an audible warning for oil, water, alt, etc. Just a bummer that it won't work on a pre OBD engine.

I had loaned it to my girlfriend. She drove it to work and the engine just stopped running while driving. The starter will "click" but the engine does not turn over. Will know more once i pull it out. I guess she didnt notice the oil gauge going down to nothing, but she is not very mechanically inclined...so....

Well...........

Turns out it was neither me nor her....

Jasper engines said it was an oil pump issue....Yhey warantied the engine and gave me another one...FREE !!!!!

It built up to much pressure somehow and blew out the gasket on the oil filter....Never heard of it before, but i guess it happens.

The new engine went in thursday and i cranked it friday....runs better than the other one..

YEE HAW ! !! !

Jasper ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!
