lever on auto trans not connected

Hi all. Vehicle info in signature, not sure what auto trans I have.

My question is on driversside of my auto trans,same place shift linkage goes into trans, there is an arm that does not have anything connected to it. Opposite end of arm has a round shaft with a c clip on it. The arm pivots downward. Can someone tell me what this arm is for?

Two pictures are attached. Hard to get good pic because driveshaft is in the way. arrows are pointing to it.

Thanks seabronc. So your saying that I screwed up by making a second post with smaller pics of a previous post. Sorry for that. I definately do not want to p**s anyone off, not this forum and definately not you seabronc. Of the 3 bronco forums i have signed up on, this one and more directly you have helped me the most. I'm new to this kind of restoration of a vehicle. I have learned so much from you and I know that with your help this restoration will get done and done right.
