93, 5.0, E4OD. I'm trying to pull DTC codes and the KOEO works but I can't get the KOER test to run. I've tried to run KOER using two different code readers (Actron CP9015 and Innova Equus 3145). I don't think it's a connection problem because the KOEO test works and I don't think it's a code reader problem because I tried them on my 94 ****** and the KOER works fine. Example of what's happening with the Equus 3145; I connect the reader, start the engine, turn the reader on (000 displays - normal), toggle hold/test to test. Then, after a few seconds the number of cylinders (8) should display. However, with the Bronco it will not get past 000. So, KOEO works, KOER doesn't work! By the way, on the KOEO test, the first code I'm getting is (hard code) 654 (MLPS not indicating Park position). Since this is an engine running test could there be something in the computer's test logic to cause it to 'hang' or 'abort' the test if it thinks the vehicle is not in park? Any ideas will be appreciated.

Couldn't find anything in my mitchell database specifically about that, but would make sense, considering that the running test jumps up the RPm's, and in gear that would be disasterous.

Hopefully the 654 hard code that I'm getting when I run KOEO has something to do with the KOER test not running. I'm going to try to analyze/fix the 654 tomorrow. I'll update my post after that. In the mean time if anyone has encountered this situation let me know what you found.

Yo; for

654 Manual Lever Position (MLP) sensor indicating not in PARK during Self-Test

You'll need to check/test the MLPS;

Check to make sure the terminals in the Diagnostic connector on the truck are clean. If they are dirty and/or corroded, clean them up with some emory cloth and try again. (I know, its a pain to get anything in there, but may need to be done)

buck45,

I think you sometimes have to clear the vehicle of KOEO codes before it allows you to read KOER codes. I mean fix the problems that are generating the KOEO codes first.

So I'd guess, (just as you surmised) that you need to take care of the MLPS first.

How's that for throwing my 2 cents in after others have done all the work? :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

SO as to not highjack this thread, I am going to start another regarding the MLPS

I finally got around to replacing the MLPS (manual lever position sensor) and this cleared the 654 hard code (MLP sensor not indicating park). And, now the KOER test works. So, it looks like problems that set KOEO hard codes (don't know if it's certain codes or all codes) must be fixed before the KOER test will run. As info, over the past few weeks I've cleared KOEO continuous memory codes 327 and 328 (replaced the EGR valve position sensor), and code 452 (replaced vehicle speed sensor on top of the rear differential). And the new MLPS fixed the 654 hard code. I'm happy to report that I'm now getting 111 on both tests. Thanks to everyone for your expert guidance and help.

Yahoo!!!

Come to think of it, one may obtain KOEO and KOER codes at the same time, so it must be that one must fix HARD codes first.

At any rate.. I'm glad to see that you got 111 s :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
