ok, I now assume you're working on the 82?

Just in case; its for the 90 or an 89 as I see you screen name is 89.... Check the alt conn.....

ISSUE: When a generator fails, there are a few failure modes that may cause heat to be produced at the wiring harness-to-generator connector. This excess heat may damage the female terminals on the wiring harness, resulting in increased resistance. The increased resistance produces more heat. When the generator is replaced, the resistance produced by a damaged connector may damage the new generator and could result in a repeat repair, including installation of another generator. High resistance (caused by a damaged connector) will not go away until the damaged connector is replaced.

ACTION: Visually inspect the harness-to-generator connector for damage (heat, corrosion, distortion and cracking) before installing a new generator. Install the Generator Wiring Harness Connector Kit (E5AZ-14305-AA) if the harness-to-generator connector is damaged.

The Generator Wiring Harness Connector Kit (E5AZ-14305-AA) contains the following:

One (1) Red Wire Butt Connector

Two (2) Yellow Wire Butt Connectors

One (1) Wire Connector Assembly

One (1) Instruction Sheet (I.S. 6849)

PART NUMBER PART NAME

E5AZ-14305-AA Generator Wiring Harness Connector Kit

thanks for the quick responce. i guess it would be the orange and black wire as it shows one to the solenoid in the diagram. yes the 82 is the one im working on. so after i check the connector and if it looks fine i should pull the alt and get it checked?

thanks

darn... hit the post button by error!!

if the conn loooks ok, then disconnect neg batty trem then positive; then you'll need to go thru ckt testing to see if there is a short to ground;

or

Troubleshooting with a Test Light (low resistance); "...low resistance test light can sometimes be used in place of a blown fuse. The light will illuminate while a short circuit to ground exists. DO NOT use a medium or high resistance test light in place of a blown fuse. These types of test lights illuminate with very small amounts of current and can be misleading..." read more

you can also use a meter if you have one.

If all is ok, then next would be a Parasitic Current Drain
