The drop in filter is real nice not only does it help the engine breath better but it is likely the last fileter you will need to buy. I have had it in mine for better than 10 years. Just make sure to get the drop in the FIPK? is not worth the money, its' "cold air intake" isn't it just draws in hot air from under the hood.

yo!

As WILEEC advised; Cold Air FIPK

Look thru the Info here;

Project M.P.G.

Go to Results; then AIR CLEANER COMPARISON

Some use late model cold air tubes and filter boxes; but I lost the LINK in JAN when my Host trashed my ste and back-up files.

Also some use HVAC duct insulation around air tubes to reduce engine heat in lieu of $$$ COOL TUBE HEAT SHIELD http://www.thermotec.com/products/full/14500/14500.html

Our Pal JSME84 also added a Shaker Style Hood Scoop to his 84

IMO when people waste their money they need to justify it, that's why they make outlandish claims.

1-2 MPG improvement would be a 10% - 20% improvement for a Bronco. If you know anyone who believes that they will get such an improvement from changing a CLEAN paper filter to a CLEAN K&N filter, please let them know I have a bridge for sale.

Your paper filter was FILTY and clogged. If you put in a CLEAN paper filter i'd bet you that bridge that you would have noted the same improvement. K&N filters need to be serviced more frequently than the paper they replaced. IF you think that the PO did not replace that filter in 20 years, how often do you think K&N filters actually get serviced?

The bronco's get air, that is as cold as it is going to get by way of the ducting that pulls air from in front of the vehicle, not from under the hood.

Paintballdude,

I just re-read my above post, and it could be interpreted that you believe that you'll get such an improvement. I didn't intend it to sound that way. I noted that you said that you were curious if those claims were accurate.

its cool joe i figured that i would need to do some research before dropping the loot on it i figure at the very least i will probably break even since i wont have to buy new filters every 8 months so i just have to maintain the bronco and filter to break even

heck i bet that i did gain 10% from changing the dirty one to the clean k&n but i dont know what i would have gained if i had just switched to a clean paper filter

i dont know how old that filter is actually but god its looks terrible

I think ill have to agree with joe on this one 100% though i feel that k&n air fliters may alow for a little bit better air flow when put beside a clean paper air filter i dont think that your going to see san increase that larg if any at all. With that being said, joe call me out if im wrong but on a truck that is running alot of high pro mods it seems that every little thing matters and that mabey the slightly bette air flow would make a diffrence. this im not sure of but to me it seems that it would make sence!

its just a filter. A huge difference would be a CAI kit. A new K&N filter isn't gonna do much better than a New paper Filter.
