New owner of a 1989 Bronco XLT (5.8L) here. I bought the vehicle as a way to bond with my oldest son (17 yrs) since it requires some tweaks/repairs/touch-up. We've had a great time working on it, trying to get it ready for inspection. We have been able to do most of the repairs...man I love the size of the engine compartment...but took it to a trusted mechanic for a tune-up since I'm too green and was worried about skrewing up the fuel-injection and timing.

We have a few more repairs to do that require parts that I can't seem to find on any of the sites that have been recommended. Specifically, we are looking to get our hands on the floor bracket for the rear bench seat (not third row?) and the bolts/nuts for the pivot points. I'd also like to find a tailgate key switch.

At this point, I've little to offer other members, but hope to contribute soon.

I also plan to post pics once we have our Bronco back from the mechanic.

Thanks in advance for all the great advice.

Welcome To the Zone! Can't wait to see the pictures of your Bronco.

I'd also like to find a tailgate key switch.
Are you looking for the electrical part that operates the window or the lock cylinder that the key goes into?

I believe all 78-96 Bronco rear seats are identical; exc for seat belts

....

"Everything is identical from '78-96; the year labels are only to identify the donors. The plastic sheath on the strike bar can be replaced.

78-91 have the reels mounted where the buckles (21 in the top panel) are in this diagram, and the buckles mounted near the seatback hinges (8 in the top panel)

"The insulator commonly wears off the rear seat strike, so to reduce noise, it must be replaced. 1" heat shrink tubing is probably the smallest that will fit, but I was able to stretch this 0.972" enough to get it over the end. The next size up that I have is 1.35", which seemed too big to shrink down tight. These are 2"-long sections"

Good luck, I asked about this part A while back for my Bronco. http://broncozone.com/topic/23758-tailgate-key-lock-cylinder/page__view__findpost__p__123945

Seabronc replied:

...someone trashed the harness. Probably to make it operable from the front. Your least expensive option is to get a harness from a junk yard and take all the pieces with it that attach and operate the switch from the cylinder.
and Miesk5 added

...

but Fred got you on right track

Lock Cylinder Component pic in 78-96; "...The parts might be OUT of factory order, but they'll still work as shown. The switch assembly (permanently attached to the t/g wiring harness) fits around the part in the insets..."

Well, I finally got the tailgate window operable with a 'creatively engineered' switch of my own making using a couple of of switches I got at Fry's, wire and connectors from replaced window motors, an old scrap of all-weather baseboard, dowel rod and epoxy. <grin>

I didn't think the dang thing was gonna work so I didn't take photos of my manufacturing process and now that it is installed (with epoxy) I can't remove it. Well, I could remove it, but I'd have to sk**w with something that is working and that was something my dad taught me was a huge mistake.

I also managed to manufacture the rear seat floor box out of sheet aluminum and rivets and the striker bar out of galvanized pipe and grade 8 screws from O'Reilly auto parts. I had to play blacksmith for a day in order to flatten the ends of the galvanized pipe, but I think it turned out well. My concern is that the galvanized pipe is not as strong as the original striker bar and therefore not as safe in the event of a serious crash.

Again, thank you for all the help.
