Back during the gas crunch in the 70's that was the max speed limits on the interstate's. Look at it like a friendly reminder from the past.

I agree. I've always heard since 55 was the federally mandated speed limit for so long, manufacturers put the red line there as a warning that if you exceed it, you are speeding. Since the speed limit is no longer dictated by the feds, the only reason it is still there is "cultural inertia." Its there today because it was there yesterday.

Ever hear the song "I can't drive 55"? All about that old pitiful speed limit.

Aw, $hit. Now doesn't having to explain a 55mph speed limit make you feel *old* ?!?!?!?

That's just not right, I'm only 40. These zipperheards should know better.

apologies to anyone whom I've offended by feeling old. You'd think having kids in high-school would have cured me by now. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Next time your on the interstate doing 70, if you didn't live through the 55 MPH time frame, slow down to 55 and you'll see how bad it sucked.

No, it doesn't make me feel old. It makes me think... boy these kids Really Don't have the experience that we have. I remember gas shortages, where they would limit sales to $5.00. Yeah the price was about $0.50 a gallon, maybe a $1.00 I really do not remember, but the lines were long, and more gas stations were out of gas than there were ones open. I drove a dilivery van back then and found that one could go to the front of the line if one carried a five gallon container. The busses weren't running (maybe they were on strike) and I picked up a hitch hiker with a gallon of gas. He had a sign FREE Gas! Quite inginuitive of him, I would say! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

No offense Broncoholic1992. I met a gentleman a couple of months ago who served in Patton's army. Man, it was a pleasure just listening to him reminisce.
