I am trying to change my fuel filter on my '93 and I noticed that the previous owner installed the incorrect fuel filter. Size is right, connection is not. I cannot fit a disconnect tool under the fuel line end because the shaft on the filter is too short and puts the line end flush with the filter. Thanks for any help!

I had the same problem when I first got The Beast. I was able to grind off a litle from the tips of the removal tool to get it in the line, and get the filter off. If you cant, there is no alternative than to gently cut the filter, BY HAND ONLY! to avoid any sparks. Then use the tool and needle nose pliers to pull out the filter end from the line.

Thanks for the tips! Should I be concerned about metal shavings getting in the line if I do have to cut the filter?

i have had to do this to a few filters. I would not myself be worried about metal in the line the fuel flowing out when you remove the stub will flush out any remaining metal chips. Just be sure that the tool will not create any sparks and that the replacement filter is the correct one, so as to avoid having to do this same hassle again in 15k miles.
