if it did will there be a button to unlock and lock it? or is it like a spool? and is locked all the time?

it has 38" TSL's will i be ok with the 60? or will it blow...has 8" sky jacker lift and a 2" body

OK, gotta ask why the super-rare 8-lug 44-swap in a Dana 60 which should have come w/8-lugs ? Either way, doesn't matter. With a Detroit Locker up front it will rarely if ever unlock (yes, it *might* from time to time & my Ex is just as likely to suddenly forward 8yrs of past due Child Support). You may as well treat it like a spool. It will *occasionally* unlock but don't count on it doing so with any regularity in such a short wheelbase vehicle. 38's are fine with a 60, with a 44 & 9" the usual limit is 36" but with what you've got you're cool.

I read it as having the D60 rear and the stock D44 front. The front is 8 lug to match the D60 rear, correct? The Detroit locker does not have a "on/off" switch or lever, it works on it's own. In theory, it should unlock when making a turn, so the tires can turn at different speeds. It will oftgen make a loud "clank" when it does this on pavement. the D60 should be able to handle 38's, but not the stock D44. I keep breaking axle shafts and u-joints in my 78 Bronco, so upgraded to chromoly shafts. JSM84

Yup, the Detroit is only locked under torque. Otherwise its like an open carier. Jack up the rear tires together and same for the front. Rotate the tires. If it has a spool or locker both tires will rotate the same direction. Open carier will turn oposite.

Both axles are Dana's, 60 in back & 44 up front. Be careful hammering it in 4WD with those 38's. The 60 is just fine & being a full-floater changing a broke axleshaft isn't a big deal but drive it with a heavy foot and you'll quickly break the much smaller D44 axleshaft and *that* one's not nearly as much fun to replace.
