I will be picking you guys brains as this project progresses as I come into the issues

that I know I am finding. Like getting rid of the old air pump system and so on. This ain't my first rodeo and I am

tech savy so any help I get and any I can help with I look forward to it. Will post pic later.

Welcome to the Zone >:D< <'> !  Post some pictures when you get a chance.  Also, please add the trucks vitals to your signature, it may help get better responses to questions.

Well I managed to get a couple of pictures uploaded. More will follow. Just gave it tires yesterday, now it's snowing so i'll work on it later. Got all fluids to change, gotta get rid of that crappy smog stuff, then new ignition and fuel injectors ( which I will rebuild myself) and then exhaust. It has been sitting since May and I just got it. Found out the rear axles slide in and out about 1/4 in or so. That about where I gotta get to before I can use it. It does run good, so I can't complain there. But I will greatly accept any and all help I can get and any ideas to consider would be fine too.

Axle Shaft End Play

Axle shaft end play is allowable up to 0.762mm (0.030 inch), but can be as low as 0.127mm (0.005 inch). It is controlled by the u-washer (4N237) that holds the axle shaft (4234) in the pocket of the differential side gear (4236). To reduce clearance, replace differential side gears, Traction-Lok® clutch plates if equipped, differential side gear ****** washers (4228) or axle shafts as required.

Mostly the injectors that ford and Chrysler use. they are pretty simple. Just take them out and get the kits for them. I get mine off ebay.

To give you and idea, the injectors in a jeep 4.0l are the same type in a ford ranger 3.0l. But I went a step futher. I went to junk yard and found a 92 Lincoln with a 4.9l and pulled the injectors and carried them home. cleaned them up and ran the numbers to see what size they were. The ones in my b3000 were 13lb and the Lincoln's were 18.5lb. so I ordered the kit from ebay, about $20 or less for all 8. Then pulled the filter basket out of the tops and got a small paint can and filled it with berryman's b12 card cleaner and let them soak. made a power switch with a one way toggle and a injector connector so I could power the injector after soaking to blow out the trash. both directions. a rubber tipped air nozzle works best for this. then replace the new filter basket and O-rings and install. My mazda 3.0l is ported and polished, 18.5lb injectors, iridium plugs, crane fireball 6 ignition box. Now it has some of the most unbelievable bottom-end torque. It with redline in first gear with 16in tires and never pop the clutch. this from a rolling start, letting off the gas a then stomping it. cool huh

Thanks Ron,

I haven't gotten into the bronco yet. How do I determine what differential I have. I plan to go a little more extreme with the bronco. I guess summit racing is going to love me before the year is over. LOL.

Hey Gramps,

There should be a metal tag on the pumpkin cover. It has the code for the gears inside.  I don't have the decode but post them here and for sure Al, Bully or Seabronc will.

The possibility exists that the PO changed the gears. The old school way of determining ratio is the following:

This is easier with a buddy, but can be done alone with some ingenuity.

1- safely jack up the rear

2-mark a line on the drive shaft for reference. and one on the wheel that can turn free.

 3-hold one wheel from turning.

4-with trans in neutral, turn the wheel and count the revolutions of the driveshaft. That's your gear ratio.

Good Luck

Weather is bitter cold tonite. Thanks for the reading info, I will be going thru the truck soon. The next project on the list is the start flushing of all fluids. Will be carrying this thread to a new discussion in info section. There I am going to list each step and what I find. Ought to be fun. I will try to add pictures.
