Can anyone give me the color bar or part number of the ignition module needed for a 1983 auto 302.

(Im going off the local auto parts salesman with the color bar.)

Need to make sure this isn't a problem with the electrical system.

Thanks, that's the one I was giving. I've found this O'reillys by me to be notorious for giving out the wrong parts.

Would the distributor give a click noise if bad when trying to start the engine?

The click is a single quick click/snap

Could be a # of thangs; arcing; cap is loose (check spring clamps), rotor needs replacement

Are sure it's not lifter noise at the cylinder next to the distributor?

How would I tell if its arcing and what do you mean by the cylinder?

The cap in on tight and the rotor is good.

If the coil to distributor wire isn't in all the way it will give a loud snapping noise as the spark jumps the gap that it creates.

or have omeone crank it and hold on to the distributor if it is losing spark you will be the FIRST TO KNOW (lol)

All the wires are on tight.

ok, get a helper to start it while you use a garden hose length to track this noise down; to ensure it is coming from the distr; watch fan!

If it is inside distr. have to look @ inside of cap for any damage, but since the rotor is ok, it may have a worn gear (entire gear is worn causing play), etc.

May have to remove it to have it checked
