ok so theres an ignotion relay or box or somthing mounted on the steering colum of my 89 XLT and im trying to figure out which wire from that is supposed to go to the starter solenoid when the ignition cylinder is turned sending power to the starter. any help would greatly appreciated.

oh one more problem.. i have no dash lights. checked the bulbs and the fuse and they are all good.. any suggestions

i posted before about my wiring rats nest in my dash and under the colum.. well today i got it out and about 100 wires of a keyless entry system and alarm that didnt work.. so to make a long dramatic story short. SNIP,CUT, CHOP and pull and now its out. well in return my lovely truck allows everything to work except the power going to the starter. hence my problem above. GOOD NEWS is i got used body panels in great shape with no rust for a pretty decent price. both doors and both fenders with matching hood and spare tire mount for 300 bucks!! not bad if ya ask me.. In the process of replacing these.. i found i need new rocker panels and floor boards... but those arent to expensive from broncograveyard. com . new dash and door panels are coming too.. also next payday im goin to get a new core support, front and back bumpers. i spent the whole weekend fiddling around with it and accomplshed alot. ...

the worst part of my weekend.. in leaving the parts place where i got my body panels.. i went by an offroad shop to check a price for a suspension lift... well when i got back in my truck and turned the key.. nothing.. i had power but no start!!!.. turns out.. inside the colum then is a small metal arm attached to the metal shaft that runs along the top of the colum and moves forward to engauge the starter... the little arm broke right off... back to the parts place to purchase a steering colum for 40 bucks... thank god i can find parts cheap!!! lots more horror stories to come and pics are in the worls as we speak! thanks guys

I'm a little confused by the thread....are you still having the problem in trying to figure out which wire goes to the started solonoid? Or is your big problem now the horseshoe piece that attaches to the metal rod that hooks into your ignition box on the column?

I've got a '91 that had the same problem with the horseshoe piece inside the column. The part cost me $10 at the dealer. Real pain to get to and install but it's do-able.

In the mean time what you can do is take off the ignition box from where it is attached to the column. Use a ***** driver to push the switch to start and stop the truck. Be careful to only start it when you have it in park. And the more I think about it you can't start it in drive as I almost called to have my truck towed only to find out I had stopped it in drive and it wouldn't start until I put it back in park.

yeah i got the rod fixed.. the colum is good.. i need to know which wire goes from the ignition swith on the column to the starter solenoid and does that wire go through the ECU and a relay or one or the other...

Here is my guess.

37 is hot all the time.

32 goes to the starter solinoid

16 goes through a resistor to the bat side of the coil

262 goes directly to the bat side of the coil.

hope that helps.
