My truck needs a new ignition lock cylinder. I was wondering If I should try to do this myself to try to save money but I'm not sure of what to do. I need a summary of what to do or I might just take it to a shop and have them do it. but if someone wants to give me a summary of what to do, i'd gladly appreciated. thank you. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

What is your ignition switch doing exactly?

I recently replaced one little piece that is in the column because when I would turn the key...even as far as I could, it would not crank the starter....it had no spring to the turn over. I took the ignition lock out, and there is a gear in there that you can use a screwdriver to turn the starter over...but that wasn't the problem. The problem had to do with some sort of linkage piece that moves when you turn the key over. Mine was broke. To replace, it requires pulling the wheel, and a great deal of the column apart to replace. I had it done...set me back a couple hundred bucks just in labor...and those were friend prices at my buddie's garage. Let me know what it's doing exactly, maybe I can help.

When I turn the key all the way off, it would take me atleast 10 minutes to try to get the key to unlock again so i could start it. so i have the key turn off half way just enough so my battery wont be dead the next time i start it up. i know its the ighnition lock cylinder cause that i guess u would call it a ring (where you put the key in) that piece moves around.

Ignition Cylinder Replacement by Chris B

The easy way:

Insert the key into the cylinder, turn to the "on" position, press the pin in that is located on the underside of the steering column. Now you just pull the cylinder out. You may have to wiggle a bit, or turn the key just a little, but that is all there is to it.

To install the new cylinder, just slide it into the column until the bottom tab goes into the square housing, and make sure the little pin locks into it's hole, and you are done.

Oh, I see. Miesk5 is correct (he tends to be correct all the time...wonder why that is.... :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Sorry...I didn't quite understand what kind of problem you were having with your ignition switch.
