No. It is a highly funtional part in the idle control. When they go out, or are going bad, your Bronco will shut down often. It's simply not receiving the proper idle air/fuel amount required to keep it running at a steady, proper idle. To be honest, I've never tried running without it, but I always remember something my Dad told me about automobile manufacturing:
Say you are Ford and you turn out, let's say for a nice round number, 100,000 Broncos a year. Every part and piece on that vehicle has a purpose...some are for aesthetics, which you pay more for; but the majority are functional, required parts. Now lets say that IAC cost Ford (conservatively)$13.00 a piece and another dollar or two to install (overhead, employees, etc.) Now, since Ford is in business to make money, if they didn't need that part they could save in the neighborhood of 1.5 million dollars. If it didn't require it, they wouldn't put it on there.
I know, it's a little philosophical, but I NEVER end up with "spare parts" after working on my Bronco.
Just my two cents.
Jim
