Questions that is! I know my trans dipstick is not correct as the bracket points the wrong direction to secure it so it just bounces around. It is about 2" above the exhaust manifold height wise, what does a correct dipstick look like? I tried to order one from Bronco Graveyard but it requires drilling the trans,I cannot get a correct reading!

I may have to drain, refill and take a cold non-running level reading? It shows to be in the word Crosshatch right now cold not running.

Hey RR,trans tube.jpg

I'm assumimg you are refering to the dipstick AND the tube.

FYI, I have a 96 and the tube is about 6" above the tope of the exhaust manifold, and bolts to a bracket that runs from the upper intake down to the exhaust manifold. I attached a pic. (Yellow line points to the mounting bolt, Green to the support bracket to the tube.)

If that doesn't help you out, here are a few ideas:

You have a 93, correct? There should be plenty 93s in salvage yards, and I'm pretty sure the Ford light duty pick-ups used the same tube and stick. I would also call around tranny shops, or better stop in, ( I found people are more likely to help me out face to face, than on the phone.). Ask them if they have anything you can use ( buy ), or if they have any suggestions. They probably run into that problem alot more than most of our members here.

Good Luck, and let us know how you make out.

Out of curiosity....what happened to the original tube and stick?

Thanks Ron, not sure about the original tube & dipstick,I just bought the truck in Oct. The VIN shows the engine to be a 5.0 and it has a 5.8 with an E4OD which is correct trans wise, so I do not know why the tube would have changed?

Hey RR,

If the tube is anchored properly in the trans, I'll have to assume that it is the correct tube and stick for your tranny. Then the only problem is the anchoring of the upper part of the tube.

The 5.8 eng. is slightly taller than the 5.0, so that may be why the tube was never anchored after the engine change. ( that and the guys that did it weren't very good.) The solution would be to find a method to anchor the tube....then issue is removed.

Good Luck
