Ok so I was driving today and I started hearing a squealing sound coming from the front drivers side tire, it kinda sounded like a turkey call and when I checked it out I noticed there was some oily fluid around the hub, it never was there before and I haven't used the 4x4 in a few weeks, the only thing that happened was I had my tires rotated 2 days ago. If it is the hub I was thinking of doing the warn manual locking hub conversion, but I'm not sure what it is.

I was told its best to replace the rotor, wheel bearings, hubs ect all at the same time because it will all be taken apart already. And are the warn manual locking hubs the way to go? Is it an easy swap, cuz I don't use the 4x4 all that often, and what are some signs of bad hubs and wheel bearings?

Naw..., in this case, many of the components are as good as new once removed & washed up. (sounds like something a shop would tell you)

Do you have a friend or neighbor that's knowledgeable in this area that could walk you thru this.?

-OR-

Buy the repair manual at the auto store ($15)

-OR-

Go to the library & check out the big manual.

This isn't dificult at all...., just needs to be done clean & in the right order.

"...there was some oily fluid around the hub."

The only fluids in that area would be leaking brake fluid, melted/seperated bearing grease leaking past a seal, (& maybe gear oil on a solid axle).

You may simply have a brake fluid leak. you can tell by its smell, (& often it eats paint) & it will usually wash off with water. Look/see if you have drip lines on the back side of the tire.

A leak would be at the disc piston on the caliper or a cracked line.

However.., it could just be (the noise) something lose/bent caused by/during the rotation.

Ok so here's an update, after checking the wheel bearings and the hubs we found hat they were both fine. I'm starting to think its my springs or shocks cuz the noise gets louder when goin over bumps. Still have no idea why there was fluid on the hubs tho.

Likely have to go on the rack & run the dr. train to find the noise.

Guessing that's a D-44 IFS & there's a lot going on under there but, it's all fixable. (seals, bearings, shafts, u-joints, etc.)

".....no idea why there was fluid on the hubs tho."

Not sure what "fluid on the hubs" actually means...

Pics go a long way helping with these guessing games.... >:D< <'>
