I have a 1990 5.8L and I was getting a bad idle. never going faster, rather going to stall but not stall. I replaced several sensors and vaccum line thinking these were the problems....NOT, so I ran the code and Got EGR code. NOW with a block off plate I made to put between the EGR and manifold my idle problem is gone but now I have a crusieing problem and when I just slightly apply gas my Bronco bucks and sputters. I have had no time to remove the plate to see if the problem reverses back but will do... and I am tired of spending money and not being able to fix the problem, I am sometimes convinced that is almost seems electrical or something. Also to mention in order to not have the bucking and sputtering I have removed my spout connector and everything runs O.K. (no stalling idle and no bucking and sputtering), but with the spout out it lacks power and it burns more fuel....

Has anyone ever had a problem like this before! How does the motor feel when the EGR is BAD..

I have had several other post's about this problem and I want to thank you all for the help.

Dan,

I'll throw out a couple of ideas that may help. First, when was the last time you changed your air filter and the crankcase air filter? That could contribute. Also, perhaps your IAC isn't functioning properly. The IAC isn't that bad a job, and I don't think they're that expensive. But, for a cheap check/fix, definitely change your filters.

Anybody else feel free to add or correct me.

Jim :)>-

I had my EGR Valve checked at Autozone. Take it off and take it in to them and they will test it free of charge. If you don't have an Autozone, I'm sure a similar parts store can do the same. i.e. O'Reily's, Advance, Pep Boys, etc
