First time working on a 8.8 see it has a spring clip which I think is a good idea but I'm wondering the best way to install to get back in? Isn't all the 8.8 Ford 1995 differential 31 spline? Ordering a USA standard 31 spline Spider gear kit. Only going to be used as a daily driver I don't need heavy duty. Amazon as it as a 56% off $86.00

Actually don't remember about the 31 spline.

But I don't recall using any special tools. I have done quite a few of them. Even a couple sets at friends in their driveway and I know I didn't take any special tools with me.

Oreilly auto parts always had the sets in stock. Just went and picked it up, never paid attention to the spline count. Now it looks like they don't even list them.

It is kind of weird to see the tone ring like that. The do lose teeth from time to time but i would imagine that damage came from you failing spiders.

If the speedometer was working okay i wouldn't mess with it.

Replacement if I remember right.

Take the tires off. Put truck in neutral.

Rotate carrier to get the pin out. take s a 5/16" wrench.
Pull the retaining pin, then pull the big pin.
Once you do that, slide the axles in far enough to pull the C clips.
Then slide the axles out enough to clear the gears.

As you slowly rotate the carrier the spiders will just turn out of their places with the pin removed.
Install the side gears, start the sliders and their washers.
Roll them back into place.
Might take 2 or 3 tries to get them timed just right for the pin to go through.
Once they are timed and will clear the pin on both ends, pull pin back out. Slide axles in. Put c-Clips in. Put pin back in, put retaining pin back in.

Just went out and looked at the tone gear there is tooth completely broke off, Dang. At this point I'm wondering if replacing the axle (pick and pull yard) will a axle 8.8 on a pickup will work. If so what years. This Bronco project has a lot of different issues but I'm not giving up on her. Thanks for any input!

Look for housings with the speed sensor in them. So like everything from 92? on up? Not sure, been awhile. F150 and Bronco for sure.

I thought there was a 8.8 rear end that had disc brakes you could bolt in. If you wanted to go that way.

But all in all, dropping the carrier is only 4 more bolts. As long as you get the shims back in on the left and right correctly it isn't difficult if you decide to go that way.

If you go to the pick and pull, I would be tempted to pull the cover and inspect before you take it out of the vehicle. Who knows if it is better than what you have or not.

The computer reads the speed signal two?
The speed signal goes to the PSOM which runs the speedometer and also goes to the computer and controls shifting on the E4OD and cruise control and abs I think.

So yes, you have to have a speed signal from somewhere.
