 After years of searching I found the perfect Bronco YAY! But I have a problem maybe some one can help me with. I have a 96 Bronco 5.8 auto Eddie Bauer edition, My 4wheel drive isn't working. I press the 4X4 button and the light comes on in the dash showing its on (engaged) but the front wheels don't move. Can any one tell me how to find out what's wrong? Or give any good advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated >

PS

I will try to post pictures of my Bronco. I'm sure everyone will be amazed at the condition of it. I live in Maine and I bought it from Florida it has a lot of highway miles but it was garaged and only driven in nice weather, never off roaded. The pictures I have of it right now were takin at night, so they're not great.

yo!

Typically, it's in the Xfer case motor

also some more info:

one more:

another possibility is the Shift Control Module but that is not a common prob.

:)) could be a transfer case problem but i would start with the easier things...such as checking the hubbs....most likely u have the auto lockers...thats the firth thing i got rid of...i put warm premium manual lockers on mine...if u have a bad hubb your 4wd wont work...so get that checked out....and this may sound stupid but make sure there is a front driveshaft in it ...i mean...it was used so , you never really kno

Thanks for the help guys! It worked when I bought the truck, after having the front pads and rotors replaced, it didn't work after that. I can hear the transfer case engage, and the light comes on. and I hear a ratcheting noise when I disengage the 4 wheel drive, until I stop and go into reverse for a couple of feet.

the auto lock hubs are a pain in the butt.. if the spring in them broke or streched they won't work the way their suspose to or if the shims in them are messed up. it usally will sound like their grinding away while driving down the road. get a set or WARN manual hubs. you will haveto get out to lock them but you will find them to be more reliable :)>-

Thanks a lot guys, all the info was a great help! I really appreciate it all ! I'm really glad I Joined this site! Maybe some day I can be of some help to you all. Mustangs are my specialty. If this all sounds sappy delete it for me because I have a tough guy image to keep up LOL!

I found out the transfer case is engaging fine, the problem does seem to be in the hubs. It does seem to be making a slight grinding noise while going down the road in 4 wheel drive. I think I will shop for the Warn Manual Hubs and conversion kit.

Hope you all have a great Turkey Day!
