I'm running a 5.8 EFI and it burns gas like a mother. I'm 17 and don't have much cash to work with but im gonna try to upgrade her paycheck to paycheck. All sugguestions are welcome.

also does anybody know what the putout stats are for the 5.8 efi?? i need to know b/c bronco also came with snowplow and I wanted to know if i should give her more power or not

Cheap decent headers=flowtech. Id recommend painting them with engine paint though unless you like the look of rust

Thanks bro I'll take the headers into consideration.

Welcome to the Zone! >

I have just done a few things to my 90 and have gone from 9 MPG to 12 MPG!

1) Cut the top half of your right foot off!

2) Advance the timing from 10 deg to 13 deg BTDC

3) Installed a K & N air filter # 57-2503

4) Installed a Flowmaster 40 Series muffler #430402

My next steps are to remove the second cat from the exhaust and replace the air tubes from the intake to the filter. These are to change the sound of the truck. The second cat keeps the Flowmaster too quiet and the air tubes are making too much air noise.

I think the most important thing I have done to save fuel is to keep off the throttle, everything else is helping. As I do more that works I will post on the forum.

Good Luck

Sheesh, my 1996 5.8L gets 15MPG. This has always worked for me in my vehicles, try 93 octane gas and some 104 Octane Booster. It will drink the first 2 tanks, but it cleans the injectors for a better running truck, and will give you a little boost on mileage.

good luck,

The 1990 5.8L MPFI V-8 puts out 210 HP @ 3800 RPM, and 315 ft/lbs torque at 2800 RPM.

Keep the maintenance up on the motor and mileage should be around 12-14 mpg. A K&N filter may help a bit. I would keep the exhaust simple, with a single hi-flow cat and single Flowmaster muffler.

I see alot of younguns with a heavy right foot. That will lower your gas mileage to less than 10mpg, as will frequent use of 4WD.
